Animation and Media Workshops

Animation of Muybridge by Steev

This is promising to be an exciting year for animation workshops. In cooperation with Perth's Youth Action Kommittee (YAK) and thanks to a generous grant through the Ontario Arts Council's Arts Education Projects I will be running a 3 month workshop 2 nights a week in the spring.

Grants from the Ontario Arts Council Artists in Education program allowed me to conduct 10 25-hour workshops over the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 school years. I also conducted a number of multimedia workshops at the Ontario College of Art and Design.

I had the privilege of working with the CyberArts program at Don Mills Collegiate Institute in Toronto and with the Brooke Valley School near Maberly.

Look below for a small sampling of my students' works and you'll see why I'm so proud of their achievments. I would like to thank both of those schools for welcoming me into their classes.

I worked with DMCI grade nine CyberArts group and their fantastic teachers Sharron Forrest, Blakely Macalister, and David Porter to produce two animated shorts promoting literacy, check out Read and Read 2.

With the aforementioned teaching team, plus David Carter, I guided the grade 10s through the creation of a few dozen mini rotoscope animations in Flash. They are all great and I assembled many of them into a mash-up I like to call ContraFUNKtus .

Another exciting group to work with were the youngsters at the Brooke Valley School. This group of 5-9 year-old under the tutalege of Coral Nault produced this little chase scene "Bigwig Leads the Escape"

Sea of Love

In December I worked with a great group of kids aged 7-11 lead by Christa McCullock and Lynda MacDonald of the Brooke Valley School. They came to the studio and we started with zoötropes and flip books and ended up with several claymation shorts. Sea of Love and Godzilla and Kong are just two of the fun movies they made.

Ontario College of Art and Design

I worked several Class Assistant positions at the Ontario College of Art and Design in 2006-7. I teamed up with two fine artists, Johanna Householder and Lyla Rye, teaching their classes in "Time Based Media and "Site and Intervention" respectively.

I helped them out with their web pages, digital video and audio production, and some basic electronics; all mashed up in the form of performance and installation based work, as well as some good old fashioned screenings.
